It’s hard to imagine that seven years have gone by since the US invasion of Iraq under operation freedom started. The world has changed in a very short seven years. Seven years ago, there was no Facebook and yet Facebook is now 500 million plus users, Twitter is now the standard form of instant communication and there was no such thing as check ins through FourSquare and Gowalla.
I remember very clearly the day the invasion started, I came home from playing squash and the breaking news on CNN was the invasion of Iraq. Whether you were for of against the war is now history as we have seen many debates from both sides of the aisle on this issue. The important thing to remember are the brave men and women who lost their lives, those who suffered life long injuries and those who are coming back home. They answered the call of duty and served their nation well.
Can you imagine just getting married andĀ you get deployed to Iraq? Can you imagine not being around to see the birth of your son or daughter but on the battlefield and not sure if you will make it out alive? Can you imagine not being around your loved ones and to share with them their birthdays’ their anniversaries and their achievements. The soldiers have sacrified a lot and those precious moments will never come back, moments which they missed spending time with their loved ones.
We admire their sacrifices and the sacrifices made by their families. Today must be a very happy day for them because they are now united with their loved ones and at peace knowing that they are finally home for good and here to stay.
Live is short and we never know what will happen in our lives and when will timeĀ take us far away from our loved ones, so we must make sure that we live each day, celebrate each day and do good deeds to one another each day. It’s important to share each day with your loved ones and enjoy each others company as we never know what tomorrow will bring.
Welcome home heroes, may you now enjoy the lost time with your loved ones as we also pay respect to those who lost their lives and pray that their soul will forever rest in peace.
WELCOME! WELCOME! WELCOME
